Priorities
LOWER OUR TAX BURDEN
As State Representative, Peter Durant has earned 100% record from Citizens for Limited Taxation in standing up for taxpayers. He led the fight to suspend the gas tax. Peter understands the hefty burdens taxes place on families. He is committed to holding the line against new taxes and reducing the sales tax back to 5 percent to help make Massachusetts affordable.
AFFORDABILITY
Over 1100 people are abandoning Massachusetts each week due to our state’s high cost of living. As our next State Senator, Peter Durant will work to lower the cost of utilities, oppose open road tolling and new tolls, reduce fees, oppose transfer taxes, and stop endless government regulations.
STRENGTHEN PUBLIC SAFETY
Peter Durant fully supports the men and women who wear the blue and put their lives on the line to keep us safe. He has and will continue to stand with them and victims—not convicted criminals. As our next Senator, Peter will:
-
Oppose ending life without parole for first-degree murderers
-
Strengthen Melissa’s law regarding victims of rape
-
Support the death penalty for cop killers
-
Work to stop Massachusetts from being a magnet state for illegals
SUPPORT STATE AID FOR COMMUNITIES
As a former Selectman and Finance Committee member, Peter knows the importance to state aid for communities. He is the candidate you can count on to fight for our communities.
GROW OUR LOCAL ECONOMY
As State Representative, Peter Durant has earned a perfect record in standing up for the small business community from the National Federation of Independent Business—the nation’s leading small business advocates. As a former small business owner, Peter knows first-hand how taxes and endless regulations can over burden entrepreneurs. Peter understands that small businesses create 3 out of every 4 new jobs in the Commonwealth. As our next State Senator, Peter will:
-
Reduce the corporate filing fees for new businesses
-
Work to revitalize downtown areas
-
Require accountability of state agencies that work with business such as unemployment insurance division
TRANSPARENCY AT THE STATE HOUSE
Peter believes it is important to restore people’s faith in our state government. As our next Senator, Peter will vote to:
-
End the legislative exemption from the open meeting law
-
End the legislative exemption from the open records law
-
End the legislative exemption from the fair procurement law
-
Require the budget to be published online 24 hours before the final vote is taken
